What the heck is wrong with MTV?
If MTV has any hope for being anything other than the channel for punks, it’s going to have a
hard time making its case after this past Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards.
It was little more than a thug-and-social-misfit appearing swear-a-thon.
MTV isn’t the kind of medium people grow up with – it’s more like they grow away from it.
MTV is so age-and-attitude specific, it’s undeniably the medium of the emerging young adult
– from teens to the slow-to-mature 20 somethings.
After that, MTV is pretty much irrelevant.
And because of that unique relationship with those who haven’t matured, MTV should be
motivated to appeal to the best in the new generation of the soon-to-be-in-charge.
Based on what happened Sunday, it’s safe to say that while respect for MTV will always be
elusive, disappointment will be its constant companion.
