Obama at prayer Breakfast

Talking about the issue of “civility,” he said, “Now, I am the first to confess I am not always right. Michelle will testify to that. But surely you can question my policies without questioning my faith, or, for that matter, my citizenship.”

Obama continues, “Challenging each other’s ideas can renew our democracy. But when we challenge each other’s motives, it becomes harder to see what we hold in common. We forget that we share at some deep level the same dreams – even when we don’t share the same plans on how to fulfill them.”

After CBS agreed to run a Super Bowl commercial featuring Tim Tebow, several feminist and pro-choice groups rose up in protest against the ad, calling on the network to pull it. Now, however, even some liberals are calling those attacks misguided, saying the choice to give birth to an unborn child is also part of pro-choice beliefs.

An unsigned New York Times editorial called the campaign to have CBS reject the Tebow spot “puzzling and dismaying.” The paper, which takes a pro-choice stance on its editorial pages, called the protesting groups “would-be censors” and said they should use the ad to convey to

America that their movement favors “protecting the right of women like Pam Tebow to make their private reproductive choices.”

Mortgage lenders pursue homeowners even after foreclosure

As terrible as it is to lose your house to foreclosure, at least it’s a relief to put your biggest financial headache behind you, right?

Wrong.

Former homeowners may still be on the hook if there’s a difference between what they owed on their mortgage and what the bank could sell it for at auction. And these “deficiency judgments” are ticking time bombs that can explode years after borrowers lose their homes.

PHOENIX — An
Arizona school principal who penned a sarcastic letter that chided parents for children who were either “too lazy or too stupid” to complete their assignments in class was suspended after the missive was mistakenly sent home.

“The math we do is really easy,” said the letter from

LitchfieldElementary School principal Ron Sterr. “If your child is either too lazy or too stupid to finish it in class, I’m sending it home so that you can work with them and judge for yourself whether it is laziness or idiocy that inhibits your child’s progress.”Ron Sterr has called each parent individually to apologize and take responsibility, the Litchfield school district said. The letter sent home Jan. 26 with second graders also contained passages about students with peanut allergies and emotional problems stemming from puppy deaths. WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (Reuters) – Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Thursday said he shared U.S. lawmakers’ concern about China’s currency value, but was optimistic Beijing would begin letting the currency appreciate.

“I think it’s actually quite likely (China) will move. I think they recognize it’s important to them, in their interest as well,” Geithner told the Senate Budget Committee.“And it’s an important part of what we’re trying to do generally to try to make sure that the world is growing. That it’s growing not on the basis of an investment-led, export-heavy model again. That it’s growing with stronger consumption, stronger domestic demand,” Geithner said in response to a question from Senator Ben Cardin.“And that requires a level playing field for American exporters generally and we’re going to work very hard to encourage those changes. And I share your view about the importance of seeing more progress across the board in this area,” Geithner added.
