Have you ever thought of the high cost that was paid to achieve the rights and freedoms that we enjoy today?
Just what does the 4th of July mean to you?
I asked this question recently and got the answers I expected: freedom (in all areas), family, fun, celebrations… you can figure the general reaction.
As we know, for those of us native to the U.S. it is our heritage. It is the day we acknowledge as our Independence Day. As one who can trace her heritage to a 5th great grandfather that fought in the Revolutionary War, it stirs my heart.
A bit of information, July 4, 1776 isn’t the day that we won our independence, it came some time later (close to 8 years), through the grit and determination of men who were willing to lose it all to obtain it.
How many of you are related to someone, who has served in our military? Have you thought about what that really means? We take these men and women for granted many times, yet they were and are willing to lay down their lives for your rights. Currently I have a son and 2 nephews serving in our nations military and I can say without hesitation, I am proud of them for doing so.
There are many out there who seem to enjoy ripping apart our military, trampling on our constitution, and erroding the rights that our forefathers fought to give us.
55 men signed the Declaration of Independece, and in signing it were putting thier names on a piece of paper that would ultimately lead to many of them losing their fortunes and lives, but, they had weighed the cost and were willing to take the risk… Take some time to read it, educate yourself.
Next read through the constitution sometime, see what it really says, you can find it online at archives.com -Not just the preamble that we all memorized in Middle School. I know that this seems a little radical to some, and a waste of time to others but if you don’t know what we had you won’t see the slippery slope that we are on.
Personal opinion here but I wonder if President Obama has read Article 1 Section 9 paragraph 8… basically he can’t be king, no matter how hard he tries… at least I hope the congress wouldn’t allow it. Not to mention I wonder if he really took his oath to protect and defend the constitution seriously as stated in Article 2 Section 1 paragraph 8…. I wounder if he would lay down his comfortable living, be willing to lose everything he has, to truly bring change… and in the case of our forefathers, freedom from tyrany and taxes that were unfair and out of control.
There are those in power, and those that are just opinionated but don’t really do anything, they seem to think that Socialism is the route that we should take. This would be a huge mistake! Look around, there isn’t a single socialist nation on the earth that enjoys the freedoms that we do. Those that have this thought line are the same ones that have an “entitlement” view of life… they are selfish enough to feel that everyone else owes it to them to pay for them graciously decorating the planet with their lazy rear end!
We hear people ‘talk’ about doing something, but how many are really willing to get out there, and make something happen, and I don’t mean by holding a sign and whining for the government to give them more. I mean to; by grit and determination- do something that requires them to put a part of themselves out there and make a change.
We can no longer afford to sit back and wait for the government to do everything for us, that is how we got into the current situation of this nation. We must get off our rears, and work!!! Quit being a nation of takers, expecting everything to be handed to us and be more like the early residents of this nation, willing to fight for a better life! Whether the fight is with the land for better crops or fight to see small business stimulate the economy, we MUST quit waiting for a bail out from DC. Remember those are not magic dollars that the congress pulls from a piggy bank, they are our dollars, taken from the paycheck of those that actually work for a living. They are dollars that are being robbed from our children and grandchildren’s future.
What price was paid, what lives were lost… and for what? To turn our back on generations of soldiers who laid it down to see freedom attained? Have we really become so appathetic that we are willing to sit back and just watch it all be taken away with out even a squeak, GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! How pathetic have we as a nation have become.
The good news… it’s not too late, we can make a difference, through dilligence in a few areas;
- PRAY! Ask God’s forgiveness on our sloughfulness and apathy toward HIM.
- Quit whining about what you don’t have, you have more than the lions share of people on the planet, including access to a computer if you are reading this. Be thankful for what you have people!
- Get up and do something!! Don’t just say “make a difference” –BE THE DIFFERENCE.
- Count the cost of freedom! If you aren’t willing to pay it, do me and others a favor and get out of the USA!!!
Now I ask the question once again- What does the 4th of July, our Independence Day, mean to you…..
Have a safe and Happy 4th, enjoy it with your friends and family……. and be thankful you have the freedom to do so.
Blessings,
Prariemouse
