Ruben Britt, Jr. is a native of Roxbury, Massachusetts, who has over thirty-one years of experience in education as a teacher and as a career planning counselor. Mr. Britt has written several articles related to career development and higher education in a number of publications including Essence Magazine, Upscale Magazine, Black Collegian, Equal Opportunity Magazine and Black Issues In Higher Education. Currently, he is the Assistant Director of Career and Academic Planning Center at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Also, he is the founder and CEO of the Brick Empowerment Foundation, which is a non-profit community action organization.
Ruben has conducted presentations on career development, education, leadership and the social conscious of Black America at several national and regional conferences. He is a professional speaker who has given speeches at commencements, churches, juvenile detention centers, alternative schools, community action centers and colleges. Mr. Britt has served as consultant for the U.S. Department of Education, the Education Testing Services (ETS), the Cooperative Education Association of Pennsylvania (CEAP), Medgar Evers College, the former New Jersey Department of Higher Education and several other organizations. Ruben is the former host of An Evening of Jazz on WGLS-FM and WBUQ-FM and he is presently the host of Career Talk on WGLS-FM.
Ruben has received a number of distinctions and awards, and he is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the Society of Children's Writers and Illustrators, and the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers. Also, he has written a children’s book on cultural diversity entitled Lakota, a career development guide for high school and college students entitled Black and Powerful: The Career Guide for Tomorrow’s Top Leaders and a book on self-empowerment entitled Reflection & Resurrection. Currently, he is the Assistant Director of Career and Academic Planning Center at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Ruben was the president of the New Jersey Association of Colleges and Employers from 2000-2001 and he was a member of the Cooperative Education Association Peer Resource Network. Also, he is a member of the Tri-State Human Resources Association, the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), the Philadelphia Federal Executive Board and the New Jersey Academic Advising Association.
Mr. Britt attended the College of the Sequoias (CA) and he received his bachelor’s degree from Southern University (LA) and master’s degree from Bloomsburg University (PA). Currently, Ruben resides in Voorhees, New Jersey with his wife Penny and their two children Ruben III and Savannah.
